いただきます
いただきます
I humbly receive (said before eating)
Itadakimasu expresses gratitude to everyone involved in the meal—farmers, cooks, and dining companions. It is not simply "bon appétit."
Said once before the first bite, with hands together briefly. Skipping it in a group can feel awkward; saying it alone at a convenience store is optional but polite.
いただきます。
Thank you for this meal.
